Topic : Real-world Serverless Leave Approval Application on AWS.

Objective

Building a real-world serverless application that leverages services like API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, Step functions, S3, IAM, etc., to handle and track leaves smoothly. The user submits a leave request in his portal. The admin checks his portal and approves the request. We will use S3 to host the website. The required APIs are configured via API Gateway. We will use Lambda for our computing needs, and the leave application flow will be tracked using the Step Function Workflow. All the transaction data will be stored in DynamoDB.

Description

A Jam is designed to challenge individuals across all technical skill levels. There will be some easy, medium, and hard challenges across all different topics and technologies. For challenges that cover topics that are new or too difficult for the user, the Jam platform offers clues to help the participants learn best practices. Our public events are designed to be challenging while helping participants learn new skills. For our private events, where we host a Jam for a specific customer, we work with the customer to determine their expected outcomes and then select challenges that help them achieve it.

Objective:

• Play:
  Work to complete challenges across common AWS use-cases and operational tasks to earn points. Compete with rivals for the coveted top place on the leaderboard.
  
  
• Learn:
  Advance your cloud adoption journey by solving challenges designed to teach AWS best practices around security, migration, dev-ops, AI/ML, and more. Are you brand new to AWS? Or never used a specific AWS service before? Clues are available to help navigate the challenges if needed. AWS experts are also on hand to act as coaches, but the event promotes self-paced discovery and learning.
  
  
• Validate:
  Get points for solving challenges using AWS provided infrastructure according to established best practices. Compare your performance against your peers!

Types of Jams

• Security Jam:
  This is a time boxed event where participants are working in teams to solve a number of security, risk, and compliance scenarios. It allows you to learn new skills and practice current ones against a set of simulated security incidents. Can you identify what caused the blues? What would you do differently? How can you architect multiple AWS services to prevent it from happening again? The challenges are structured to accommodate AWS users of all levels and since it is based in a specific room, we have AWS experts there that will help ramp up your security knowledge. All you need to bring is your desire to learn and a laptop.
  
  
• Jam Lounge:
  This provides self-paced challenges that can be completed within the Jam Lounge or during breaks, lunch, and even overnight. The challenges will help you learn new skills and practice current ones against simulated environments. New challenges will appear throughout the event to drive participation over multiple day events and to keep participants learning. The types of challenges that are used will depend on the event itself, but all infrastructure will be provided and participants just need to bring a laptop.
  
  
• Capture The Flag (CTF):
  There are two parts of this event that run simultaneous, a more traditional jeopardy style part and a Castle Defense part. The jeopardy style part allows participants to work at their own pace through a number of security challenges to identify a specific answer (flag). During the Castle Defense part, participants will get a production workload that they will need to harden and then protect against a number of security events that will occur throughout the CTF. Participants can work on both of these parts at their own pace during the event.

Session Pre-Requisites :

• Basic knowledge of AWS services.
• Mandatory AWS JAM Account: Register. A secret key to join the session will be provided on the day of the event.
• SSH Software such as Putty/WinSCP/MobaXterm/Terminal with AWS CLI installed
• You do NOT need an AWS Account. The login details will be provided to you on the day of the event.
